    Exclamation Turbo Glowing Red Hot!!!???

Lastnight, after driving the car really hard, pulled up to show a mate something in the engine bay and he pointed out my turbo was glowing red hot. Now ive heard before that this happens and aint much to worry about but thougfht i would check.

It wasnt just glowing a little bit, it was completely bright red, lighting up the underside of the heat shield.

It only took about 10-15 min of hard driving on an already warmed up engine.......should i be worried??

Worried or not though....it looked sweet!!!

cool, i thought that was the case but just needed to put my mind at rest.

Someone also told me i should put in a temp sensor in the exhaust so i can make sure its not getting too hot, TBH i dont think i need to but does anyone think different?

Ditching the precat will make a difference as to how easily the turbo starts to glow, as it removes one of the restrictions in the exhaust. With the precat out of the way, its difficult to get it to glow as you described, but it lights up well again if you have it remapped.

Just as a pointer though, remember to cool your turbo down nice and gently after such abuse, dont just turn the engine off, a few nice gentle off boost miles, and ticking over on the drive afterwards should help.

Agree with Andy.....hope to hell you didn't just switch the engine off with them glowing like that....a sure fire way to kill a turbo very quickly.

nah, i always let her cool down first. Got my fans wired up manual so i can turn them on at any time which helps so much. It cools it down really quickly but not so fast its gonna crack it. Just wondered wether or not it was normal for the z20let to do this and it seems it is.
