    Question Ball Joint Separator

Sorry to be a bit thick, but can anyone tell me how you use a ball joint separator like this one:

Firstly undo the nut on the ball joint

Then unwind the big bolt on the separator.
Place the forked part of the separator between the rubber boot of the ball joint and the wishbone (or whatever), so the the "beak" rests on top ot the ball joint spigot.

Then simply wind the bolt back in - it will force down the spigot against the wishbone (etc) and pop the spigot out.

Hope that makes sense - it would would take two seconds to demonstrate it

I will be doing the wishbones on my Astra in a few months but I was doing the wishbones on my girlfriends Fiesta and couldn't see how it would work. Managed to do them without as they are the pinch bolt type.

OK a wee tip for you then - the beak of the separator probably wont fit in the gap between the top of the ball joint spigot and the CV joint on the driver shaft. So you might not won't be able to use it.

However space can be made but undoing the driveshft nut and pushing it back into the to give the clearance needed - but you will need to renew the nut and split pin, and faff around with the tightening sequence, when you do it back up again.

    Or

As you are replacing the wishbone, it doesn't really matter if it gets f'ked up - so get a fork type splitter and wallop the joint apart.

    the choice is yours
