Talking New Computer - really pleased finally!

Well all of those that helped with the mess up we had with Mesh might be interested to know they took the PC back and re-sent it with the XP PRO (normal edition) and I am really really pleased with it

I have never used a computer with XP before so its quite different and its got latest software on which works well eg windows media player 10 - which is actually very very good

Having put up with a machine that was once a good machine 8 years ago, even after all the changes Rob mad to it and the countless formats it had, it was simple knackered and a real suprise it even worked at all it just shows how much I put up with using it as the new one is bloody quick compared to it!!

I am still trying to get all the software, hardware, personal files etc on it at present so getting there slowly

Good stuff, computers are always a nightmare when you are upgrading them and when you get a new one it takes awhile for it to get all "comfy". lol

P.S. Mat did you get that PM I sent you at the weekend? Cheers.

I certainly am enjoying it at the moment

Question for XP users - is it worth checking with microsoft for upgrades and patches etc?

Paris I ahve got your PM mate just not had the chance to respond to it as yet

glad to hear that one is sorted out matt,
personally i dont accept many of the automatic upgrades on xp, infact i disabled them.
gives you things like windows service pack two which i hear nothing but bad things about and other useless upgrades you could download yourself if you wanted them.

...imo i think its all a little big brother ish...seeing what your up to and so on

Some of the downloads are worth it, you can get them off downloads.microsoft.com (don't quote me though), some are worth it as they seal up the holes that MS have left in the system.

My and the missus both have all the updates and no trouble here either. A lot of the updates do seem to be security issues etc... whether this is true or not i don't know..........

Definitely install the updates and switch on auto updates. I dont buy the big brother is watching you crap, the fact is that most software is buggy, its just the most popular software will have its bugs found quicker and publicised more. If you get attacked through a vulnerability which would have been patched by an auto update you'll feel like a plonker.
    Just my 2p worth
