    Orange SPV C500 / C550

I am thinking of buying one of the above mobiles. As anyone out there got one of these and could tell me which one to go for. I have read mixed reviews on the SPV C550, one saying it is slow and not worth it and others saying it is much better than the C500.

    Many thanks

The C550 is just a stop gap until the C600 later this year (according to orange), so I's hold out if you can until then.

SPV's are a pain.. had 2 different SPV models.. both slow.. buggy.. liked to crash when answering a call.. which wrecked the point in having a phone.

Would steer clear and opt for a samsung d500 or otherlikes.

I've had 3 SPV's and not experienced a problem with any off them. The only problem is the application lock, but that's a doddle to remove.

Much better and easier to operate then the Nokia work force me to use.

What Nokia and Samsung can run a Gameboy Emulator or run old PC's adventures like Sam n Max, Day of the Tentacle and the Monkey Island Trilogy ?

    How about none.

All of these can be run on the SPV as it run's Windows Mobile 2003.

It has never locked up when on a call and I have had the phone for 4 months.

You can also buy a bigger mini-sd card to expand storage (which you can't with the Nokia or Samsung).

You can compress a 1hr 30 mins DVD movie down to 128mb of which you could then get 4 on a 512mb card.

I have the SPV 500, the SPV550 is a lot better due to a improved camera (1.3 mp compared to vga) and better joystick.

Phone also comes with a connection lead which you can use to charge it from any pc with a usb socket (as long as a driver or activesync is installed)

Orange do the phone for free on most contracts so well worth going for.

Ignore the comments from the ladies, they don't like gadgets and only want a phone that looks pretty! (I do hope theres not too many AS Ladies at Tuner GP, or I will be getting a thumping!!)

    Good points there Mr magic.

Also I've played Doom, Duke Nukem and Wolfenstien £D on mine

And as it runs on Windows - it is hackable and customisable.

    have a look at www.modaco.com - it's the Astra-sport of the SVP

yeah that site is good if you own an spv but i still advise against getting 1 if you actually want a phone, as its crap at being a phone but good at most other things.
