    mk4 imobiliser question

Ok guys, had a small problem with jelous losers keying car which contributed to rage and chip from key going missing.

I've spoken to vaux but having replaced my engine and bits, my security code nolonger works to get a new key made up.

I believe the imobiliser unit which is wrapped around the ignition barrel will need replaceing along with the purchase of a new key... if i was to take 1 from the scrappies with a key, do you think this would work, as i have access to these bits.. or would there be something else imobilising the system after replaceing these parts... should i get an ecu also or will that not be required.. i'm pretty convinced that wont be needed but wanted second opinions from peoples with experiance.

    Thanks

    Nick

I think the bit around the ignition barrel is just a reciver for the chip and sends the signal for the ECU

Did this transponder chip come with your new engine or still from your old one?

You need the Ecu and Chip in the key and the part that goes round the ignition barrel. It should work after that as we have done this a few times down the garage with Vectras, we buy cars from the salvage companys and sometimes we don't get the keys. It should be no different on the Astra. Good luck.

Yea basically the Chip/ecu and transponder (around barrell) is coded to the ECU. See if you can get the passcode for the immobilzer too otherwise you wont be able to program the spare key.
