    Insurance group 20.....

Right, here it is. I'm not saying I'm deffinately getting another car 'cos I wont be able to afford it for a while.

Anyway, I was wondering what the chances are of me getting insurance on a IG 20 car.

My insurance is up for renewl in Jan 06 at which time my status will be as follows:

    Licence held for 5 years
    5 years NCB (hopefully!)
    1 windscreen claim
3 points (CD10)... I was screwed but we wont go into that!
    22 years old
Should be a good postcode area... new out of town development with open air allocated parking.

In June 06 I'll be 23 and in July my points will be 5 years old so I won't have to declare them to most companies.

    What are your opinions people?

"Driving without due care and attention" although the "officer" said it was "careless and inconsiderate driving".

Dont wanna go into it too much in this thread but I'll explain what happened so people dont get the wrong idea.....

I was following my mate to his house, we both had one passenger and were in a 40mph duel carriageway. He was flashing his rear fogs at me now and then and I was flashing my headlights at him. We must've been doing 45ish.

Police car going the other way turned round and pulled me over saying I was racing... possibly because I was driving a nova! Anyway, he asked me if I was driving how I should be and being the scared 17 year old that I was I pretty much agreed with everything he said. He gave me a telling off and I thought that was that.

It wasn't. a month later I got a court summons. I pleaded guilty by post and got the minimum punishment. 3 points, £65 fine and £35 fees. Think if I wasnt on holiday and had appeared in court and pleaded not guilty rather than pleading guilty by post I may have got away with it. Oh well, you live and you learn.

Id like to know about the insurance thing. I'm 22 atm and will possibly be looking at a GRP20 car next year when Im 23.

I reckon somewhere like Adrian Flux (a specialist broker for young drivers and fast cars) would be a good place to start. I reckon that most of the mainstream insurers (eg Norwich Union et al) would refuse to quote at all.

Even with a specialist broker, it isnt going to be cheap but at least they would be able to provide cover, rather than refuse point blank.

Possibly the best way to find out would be to call Adrian Flux and ask them. Either get a quote/hypothetical quote/or just their opinion. They dont do online quotes as the cars and clients tend to be non-standard! But give them a buzz and they should sort you out.

Dont forget to post your findings back here!! Cheers mate.

They count on your licence for 3 years, you can have them removed after 4 but insurers will ask about the last 5 years (but they might not make any difference by that stage)

Hmmm when I get the chance I'll try to have a little phone around. If quotes are looking to be too much I'll keep the G for another year.

Might send of my licence to get the points removed too as it's been over 4 years.
