    Fiesta Zetec Oil prob....

Yes I know 'wrong forum' and all that, but you lot know your stuff and I think the principle will be the same!

Mate at works bought a 2000 W 1.6 Fiesta Zetec with 65,000m on it.

Its been running fine but using loads of oil - half a litre a week (300 miles)
A local garage says the piston rings are absolutely knackered.
Now given that hes just bought a can't afford any major engine work what do you reckon he can do about it? Keep topping it up and it may go on forever or change the oil and filter and try and part ex it?

    cheers in advance - andy

If the rings are fubared - then the choice will either be get rid, or sort it.

It won't pass the MOT emmisions test if it's burning that much, and he's just throwing money away by topping it up all the time.

Don't expect much cash if it gets part choped either as no-one will really take a shed off his hands.

Easiest option, assuming the car is in reasonable nick, would be to get another engine.

cheers - just confirmed what I thought really!

Its actually in very good nick and was advertised as having 1 80 year old lady as previous owner, which is confirmed on the logbook - for what thats worth!!!!

He's looking at taking it to a main dealer for part-exing and hoping some young salesman won't look at it too closely.

A dealer won't give him much for that anyway - it's too old to go on thier forecourt, so it will go straight to auction.

I've seen the way older people round my way drive.

    1) turn on car
    2) throttle to full
    3) skid clutch to make car move slow

No wonder they knacker up engines
