    Miles Per Gallon

    Hey Guys

in a bid to cap my fuel bills i've tried to alter my driving so i'm not so "brian off fast and furious-heavy-right-footed!" Being in mind I do roughly 1-2k miles a month, you can imagine that heavy foot + nutter petrol head = empty wallet!

So.... last Monday i put in £30 (all i had in bank ) worth of super unleaded which gave me 31.61 litres (just over three quarters of a tank). The fuel light came on this morning just as I got to work and when i stopped the milometer read 303.5 miles! not bad for 3/4 tank! whats the mpg of that?

Best I've had from my 1.8SRi AstraG was just under 42mpg on holiday round the south of scotland - easy on the right foot and Ecotec engines can be pretty economical! Was particularly impressed cause I was running the aircon for some of the time too! I'm sad enought to keep a constant record of my car's economy, cause I'm only a student so need to budget, and also sudden increases in feul consumption hint at problems! It averages 37mpg since I bought it, got 40mpg last month. I don't really do any town driving though...

On the way back from north east motorshow, I set the cruise control to 70mph, and for most of the journey, my trip computer showed on average I was doing 46mpg, now that is fantastic for a Z20LET dunno if the coupe aerodynamics helped a bit

I agree, std unleaded is about 5-7p per litre cheaper than super unleaded & there aint much of a performance or economy difference to be honest

I dont tend as a rule to put in super unleaded, but tend to put one tank in every five or so under the belief that it cleans and prolongs my engines life lol. In any instance, 5-6 pence per litre is very well, but on 40 quids worth of petrol, you're looking at what, 2.50 more based on an extra 60p per litre?
