Well I start Uni in Sept and i'm a bit worried about running my car while I am there. I'm still paying the finance off on it so i'm a little worried that I might not be able to keep up the re-payments, seeing as i'll be a poor student and all . I've also got Tax, MOT and a service in November to pay for and the car isn't exactly cheap on petrol . Also the insurance costs a bomb too.
Therefore I have three options.
The first is to keep the Astra, with high petrol costs and the loan to repay back while i'm at Uni. If I got a part-time job (which i'm planning on doing), I suppose I could afford it.
The second is to sell the Astra, repay back the loan and not have to worry about. My Mum says I can get insured on her car (Ford Puma, nice little runner) and use that for travelling. That means no money on insurance, low running costs on petrol and my Mum will pay for MOTs etc. But I don't really want to sell the car, i've spent a lot of money and time on it, i'll never get the money back I know, but i'd hate to see it go.
Therefore the last option is too use my Mum's car (save on insurance MOT etc), and declare my car off the road. The only thing i'd be repaying then is the loan, which is affordable as long as I get a job. The plan then would be to work full-time next summer, and save up some money to run it. But then I think this would be a little pointless. I could save alot of money by selling it, and still have a car to run. But of course, i'd still have my car if I chose this option.
So what do you think guys? Which option would you go for?
Thanks in advance.
