    Suspension answer needed asap

The other half has been outside removing the rear suspension on my estate, the new rear have been fitted... but now he is saying he isn't sure if he put the springs round the right way

I have popped outside to have a look, its on the deck so the spring is compressed and the fat part of it is at the bottom and the thinner part is at the top... is this right or have I got to tell him its wrong.

I myself cannot remember its been a while since I've been under a car

Cheers mate, I just needed to check...he is starting on the front now.

Yeah I still have the mk3 estate, not getting rid of that... its fantastic on petrol even though I have a leak from the tank.

Its having a respray at some point and new rear arches too

IIRC -the springs are pretty evident which way they go (it's been 2 years since I worked on one tho).

Other way up I'm sure they foul the shocks - but that recollection from a very vague mental image.

Keep looking after the old girl - but I'm sure it's in safe hands with you and Evil

The bit that confused him is that fitting them the way he did that meant the writing on the springs were upside down.

In safe hands thats what I'm worried about, he blew the engine up in the pineapple when he took it out one day... just glad he cannot drive manual otherwise I'd now be looking for another engine

Right - the diagram in Haynes shows them fat bit at the bottom :but the one on EPC shows springs with fat bit in the middle (and thin at both ends).

And the chap down the road with a MK3 estate is out, so I can't have a sneaky peek

With the back finished, the front was started until we didn't have the right size socket to get the hub nut off... not even my friendly garage had one.

But everything else is off, just need to get the ball joint out and the hub nut off then we away again... hopefully Ian's friend will pop round round the tools we need.

Hi Kirsty, off topic I know but I've asked Dannysport to drop in a 4 way elec window switch for a blue LED conversion. That ok? I'll send you my old one FOC when I've changed them over, you'll have a spare then. Also when you fit the resistor on the LED which leg of the LED does it go on the + or - side. I'll need a few LEDs to convert my other 3 swiches so I'll need to know. PM with a cost if you can please when you've got it. I'd also like the main light switch doing, the one with both fog light buttons. I've got a spare switch, you want it to convert or an exchange basis?
