Personally I wouldnt bother with spending that sort of cash on a 1.6 engine - insuring mods is a pain in the arse, surely it would be easier to buy a quicker car to start with, coupe and hatch turbos are going fairly cheap these days....

If u are as set on modding the engine though, a veccy C pipe, BMC induction kit, exhaust- full system are probably the way to go..

    Sorry to say,

But the most cost effective way of getting more BHP is to change the engine,

Closely followed by Nitrous oxide, this stuff is fantastic, but really REALLY addictive!

As with most of the NA engines built by Vauxhall, they have rediculiously restricitve inlet manifolds ( for example C16XE) on them, by ditching it for a more simple straight through manifold (see link) you will find more BHP.

    Hope this helps

    R

if u had another 500 u could turbo it but wouldnt advise it there inlet manifolds and exhaust manifolds but in the end ure still never gona get more than 180bhp realistialy and keep it reliable

The 1.6 16v is very tunable but the amount of money you have to throw at it to make decent gains makes it a financial no brainer. Your money would be better spent going towards a coupe/hatch turbo. Reliable power and a better resale value too.
    Previous Astras: 1994 Cesaro 1.8 16v | 2002 SXi 1.6 16v | 2001 Coupé 2.0 Turbo | 1999 LS 1.6 16v
    Other Vauxhalls: 2001 Vectra 1.8 16v| 2003 Vectra GSi 3.2 V6 | 2005 Signum CDTi 150
