    Air flow meter, X18XE1

    Hi all,

Been getting symptoms like surging, stuttering and hesitation with my 98 Astra G 1.8 16v CDX for a while now, and have been systematically trying to work out what's causing it.

Today i tried disconnecting the wiring from the Air flow meter in the air piping before the throttle body, and took the car for a run round the block - 100% improvement! The ECU light was on, but it didn't seem to be in limp home mode cos it revved right upto the red line freely. Could a faulty AFM fix these symptoms, or did the ECU just switch to a default map, masking a fault with some other sensor/component?

If the AFM is at fault, how much is a new one?

    Thanks

IIRC they're about £80 from VX.

Try www.lmfvauxhall.com or www.autovaux.com and you might save a few quid
