    oil change

Where do I buy a good oil filter from? (astra 1.6 mk4). I need to give her an oil and filter change as it was bought from available car and its probably been sitting there for months. Plus I don't know when the last oil and filter change was.

    Cheers.

as Geoff says, Vauxhall for the filter. Buy fully synthetic oil as its the best, I MAY (not confirmed yet) be starting a group buy on some of the best oil around, Fuch's Silkolene.

What I do is put a can of Wynns engine cleaner in the oil and run the car on fast idle for a bit, then drop the old oil out the car, put the plug back in, put about 2-3 litres of new but not exspensive oil (Halfrauds fully synthetic normally does the job) and again run the car for about 5 -10 mins. then drop that oil out, change the filter. fit the sump plug again (with new 'O' ring) and then fill up with nice new oil. Job done!

Or if it's the 8v engine you'll need a new sump plug with the copper washer on it. Pay no more than £4 for the filter, £2 for the plug.

For the 8v semi-synthetic is more than adequate, but fully synthetic is better for the 16v units.

Whoever your dealer is, yes. Just go to the parts counter, and pretend you know what you're talking about and you'll probably get a discount.

yeah, you would be surprised that such items are fairly well priced at the dealers, only certain things you need a loan for, like buying a Z20let from them....
