    Knocking From Front End

Driving on the motorway tonight, taking it steady at 60mph and I felt the car vibrate a bit, so I accelerated and the noise went then kept the speed at 70mph and it was louder, but it would only make the noise if the car was going in a straight line. I kept it straight and moved increased my speed to 80mph, the vibration got louder. I was thinking it might be a wheel bearing but im not quite sure.

    Anyone any ideas?

Failing CV joints tend to pull the car so I would suspect wheel balancing in the first instance.

Only way to find out is to have a look.

Jack the car up and check the following.

    Wheelbearings
put your hands in the 6 o'clock position and rock the wheel in and out - any play there and they're going.

    Steering swivels
Same method as above but with your hands in the ¼ past 9 position

    CV joints
drinving the car do a hard turn - if a grumble isd prestent it'll the the CV joint on the other side to the turn - ie grumble on turning right, left hand side CV joint is guff.

finally - look on the rims for signs of a missing balance weight.

    Loose wheel bolts? Worth checking.
