    Oops

After about 4 month of wondering whats up with my engine (losing oil fast, was spraying out of dump valve) changing turbo for a brand new one, changing oil filter several times, changing head gasket. i decided it was piston rings as i could smell petrol from crank breather.

    dropped out all pistons......

    3 were like this,

    melted!

my own dumb fault, dta mapped for super and i used norm. doh.

What map were you running? you could think about Water Injection to keep the pistons cool.

its a DTA management. was done by ricwood in stockport. he did say he mapped it for optimax, i never would have thought normal unleaded could do this?!

I'm very suprised tbh - what kind of power had the re-map been giving? Sounds to me like it's running far to lean and has caused too much heat build up in the cumbustion chamber - what did your spark plugs look like?

Are you running an aftermarkt IC?

i am running a smaller IC than standard. this could also be the problem. also water pump bearings had gone. plenty of reasons for too much heat. car never over heated though.

not sure what kind of power to be honest i think he said 180 at the wheels. but set for optimax.

    lean meaning too much fuel?

is it not caused by over advanced ignition with normal unleaded? the bits that came off the side were in one piece like they had been smacked off

lean as in not enough fuel - your spark plug condition would tell you a lot. But by the sounds of it it could be a combination of things that have caused your problem. I doubt that just the fuel would cause this unless you were running very high boost/power figures. Sounds more likely that the map was not correctly setup for fueling in the first place - but that's just my opinion. But why would you run a smaller IC than standard on an increased/fuel/boost map?
