    Angry Raid Strut Braces.

    Quick question...

Has anyone on here had any problems with Raid strut braces.

Reason being, ive tried tonight to fit one to Milan's astra (mshah) and after 2 hours, its come back off.

    It will not fit.

Ive compared it to the one i have in my garage and it looks as though the o/s bracket has been welded in the wrong place and as a result, when fitted, the knuckle is touching the bonnet when closed.

The bar is lowered to its furthest point, and it will not pass the strut top coller, the n/s is fine though, so the question im getting at is, is there a possibility that the carrier section for the o/s bracket has been welded incorrectly.

Also with the bar set all the way down to the bottom, its still just touching the inside of the bonnet.

When i had mine on my car, it was close but never touching.
If you tap the area around the o/s knuckle you can hear the sound change where the bracket is touching.

Really frustrating as he so wanted to get it on!

Any info would be great guys,
Also if anyone has any contact details for Raid themselves that would be great.

Ive got some pics of the areas in question, only done on the camera phone and Milan has some ones comparing it to the spare bracket i have, so if they would help, shout and ill put mine up.

Im sure Milan will jump in here and explain a bit too!

Bit embarasing for the Tech advisor to ask a question but there ya go, sometimes even the best of us get stumped!

And before anyone says, ive had the grinder idea to the brace and the coller tops but thats a last resort!!!!

    Cheers guys,
    Raz.

Can't help with the strut brace as I'm still trying to source one for myself, but not a raid as I have my doubt's about them.

But I can tell you they are made By RamAir (as in the filters) for Raid - there are based in Melton Mowbrey.

The website is down at the mo - but it might be worth a qucik call, as they are reasonably local

I don't think I can add much value in trying to explain further as Raz has given a pretty good description. However, here are some pictures to show what's happening:

As you can see the top bracket is the good one and the mounts are slanted into the engine bay. The one at the bottom has the mounts slanting away from the engine bay which is causing the problem.

And the result is it pushes the bonnet up so it doesn't sit properly. Doesn't look so bad in the picture but it is pretty bad. Also, started to crease the bonnet as it was pushing the bonnet up too much.

    Hope that helps.

I had problems with my Raid brace... Took me ages to fit it properly, pushing brace
down and tightening the bolts at the same time!!! Got there in the end.

Your right in saying the bottom one is a different shape to the top one, the only
way I can think of getting round this is to slice a bit of the top/side, re-file and
smooth as best as you can.

If all fails, give Raid a call and see what they can do, never know......

    It certainly is wrong.

I'll be worth contacting Raid first before trying any mods.
It's a tight fit under there, and just being a liitle out will make a big difference.

Raz when you say it is wrong what do you mean, yo do know you have to move or cut the to fuse boxes on the car. To get the bonnet to shut.
