    Astra Bashing

At the moment I'm very glad I left the VW scene after all GTi owners have totally slated the VXR without even TRYING it (on TSN).

What an arrogant bunch of social climbing muppets most of them are (a bit like small engined 3 series drivers)!

Welcome to the Vauxhall community Matt.

The VAG community is a pack of arrogant twats IMHO. Then again, that seems to apply to most people driving a VAG car. Over the weekend I was on the road quite a bit - 95% of the cars I saw overtaking unnessecarily, tailgating, speeding etc were VWs, and a very high percentage of those were Mk4 Golfs.

Drivers like that used to be in the BMW realm, but they all seem to be driving Golfs now.

I guess the whole Vauxhall community is why people keep coming back to sites like this even after they've long ditched their Vauxhall.

ZS- Well the mk4 Golf is cr*p apart from the R32 - Tried them all and they handle like merde.
When I had to sell the R32 I tried all sorts of VWs and Audis - Boras, Passats, A3s, etc.
All nice inside but ALL handle badly, even "sporty" ones.
The mk5 is a lot better but seems to have brought a new brand of arrogance thanks to good reviews.
I got a 150bhp, 232ftlbs estate car that looks really sharp, is well put together and handles very well indeed brand new for under £16k.
That would get me a cruddy level Golf, a base Passat or A3/4 and a pants chassis.

Bit of a no brainer really.

well im seriously tempted to sell my mk3 for either a mk2 GTI golf or a mk4 GTI TDI and i love VAG cars, i go to a fair few meets with my mate! its just a few narrow minded knob jockeys that give them all a bad name! VXR will give them a dam good run and TBH i love the mk5 golf gti

    Kev - Get a mk2 GTi - I loved mine to bits.
The mk4 TDI goes well in 130 and 150bhp form but it honestly handles like a barge. Very sludgy around corners, way too soft and badly damped.
I REALLY hope the VXR DOES whoop the GTI as I think the arrogance needs wiping off many faces.
I know because I was a bit of an arrogant git when I had the R32 - I've grown out of it now thank God!
