    Trashed my paint!

As you mostly know, I have a new 05 reg Astra with nice shiny paint.
A week ago the O/S wing mirror and the panels on the N/S got splatted with some weird white stuff - Much worse than bird muck as it only came off by scratching it with a thumbnail.
So I very gingerly rubbed it with a plastic scourer.
All looked fine until I check it the next day.
BIG scratch marks all down the side and all over the wing mirror!

Thought I had totally wrecked the paint and was shocked at the damage (I'm very careful usually and thought the plastic was easily soft enough)!

Luckily some paint coloured Turtle Wax polish did the trick and it's now only visible if you look VERY hard.

    Thank f**k for that!!

Try scratch X'ing it now and move on to a light polish, maybe worth going
over with some clay to take of the bits you missed (beyond your eye sight)

Glad it's all ok though, learn from your mistakes as they say...

I know, I know - Very stupid indeed.
I've used a softer one before to get the odd welded fly guts off and it's been fine.
    Lesson learned.

A scourer dos'nt help, but dos'nt it p you off when you wash your car, and you notice a little scratch here and there , maybe just me being a perfectionist

If you use your car at all, then expect to have knackered paint.

My wee car is just over a year old, and it really needs the bonnet resprayed due to the mass of stonechips. But, there's no point, it'll only end up chipped again.

Metallic paint is a pain in the bum for chipping. The old plain solid paint is much more rugged.
