    19' 0r 18's ?

    Hi every1, newbie alert!

I need ur help. Got a Mk4 1.6 Sxi on a 53plate. Im goin for the smooth look - de-badged, strips removed and filled, skirts colour coded.

I don't really want to add a kit to the car and instead im goin for a drop and wheels. I don't want the car sittin on the floor but instead im thinkin of a 30-50 mm drop. Problem is...i don't kno how big i can go on the wheels without major issues.

Are 19's gonna be a major hassle? Would 18's be a safer bet? What kind of work can i expect do?

All your help would be great!

18's will go on no probs with th right offset and 215/35/18 tyres. You can get 19's on pretty easy as well. I only had to have my rear arches rolled for my 19's. I've got 7.5 x 19's with 215/35/19 tyres and its dropped about 35mm all round and I get no probs.

    Thumbs Up

I would stick with the 18s due to the fact that its a 1.6,i noticed a bit difference from going 17 to 18s car does'nt pull as quick and top speed takes longer to get there, plus the car wont feel good to drive you'l find the car will snags on lumps and bumps on the road, however they would look great!!!! style over comfort and performance.

Thnx guyz. Chris, How much scrubbing do you get with the 19's when you got peeps in the back?

I just got off the fone to the guyz at R-tec. They suggested going for 18's, then stick some of my 'larger' mates in the back of the car and see how much scrubbing I get. They were saying that 19's are going to be quite a lot of work due to the width of the inner arch. I take it you removed the lining as well as rolling your arches?

I used to be able to have 5 up in the car with no rubbing at all and that included having 2 15 inch subs in the boot and the spare as well. But just recently i've had the rear seats removed so i just have a mental build in there now so there's no chance of rubbing, thats why i'm thinking of getting coilovers so i can drop it a bit more!! If you go for 7.5 inch wide wheel and the right offset you shouldn't really have to have much work done, it only cost me £100 to have my rear arches done.

I agree, 19's will kill the handling, slow the acceleration, and seriousley hamper your top speed. Go for the 18's every time, if you get the right style, they will look as big as 19's but still let you enjoy the drive

    19's dont kill your handling.

If you dont want a kit go for 18's as you wont be able to get the car low enough to pull them off, it will always look like a roller skate unless you have anig kit to put them into perspective.
