    Question Little help please..

My father-in-law has an old Ford Mustang, its been off the road for 11 years and he is now thinking about putting it back on the road...

Problem being it used to run on 4* petrol (98ron), this doesn't exsist anymore so what needs to be done?

We was talking and can an additive be added to create the 4* figure..

What ron rating is the red lable petrol in garages?

does the car need lead in the petrol?

Does the timing have to be altered to stop the (pinging) with a lesser fuel?

    Thanks for any help given..

U can get additives to add to a tank of unleaded, but it can be expensive - especially running a thirsty car like that !! I would get it coverted to unleaded as part of the process personally !

All the conversion usually involves is replacing the valve seats with harder material (sometimes the valve guides) and retarding the timing approx 5deg (iirc) to stop pinking.

Assuming your Father-in-law's in bedfrodshire - try here

4* leaded petrol is still available at very limited outlets - my morris minor is still on regular 4* leaded petrol - I'll find some details and post.
