when i seem to put the clutch pedal down the rev counter decreases (like normal) but instead of stopping just under 1000rpm it goes down to 200rpm (TWO HUNDRED) and ocassionally stalls any ideas anyone???

I am in the middle of running some injector cleaner which u mix in with the petrol but its not making any diff.

    i'm running a 1.8 16v sport MK4 with 54k (woz last servied in dec)

any help would greatly be appreciated!!!

    Thanks Mono

What year is your car? Only it could be that the throttle body needs a clean out. My car did the same thing when I
first got it. Used carb cleaner to clean out the throttle and I've had no probs since.

Halfords do carb cleaner, about £4.99 I think. Though I don't buy much from them , to dear. Motorworld might do it too. Just ask around. Spray it into the throttle body when the cars running, don't worry if it stalls. This helps blow the crap out. Get stuck give us a shout

You can just spray it up the air filter pipe, but doesn't do it as good. I'll try and find a pic of it.

Ok see in the pic where it's arrowed. At the opposite end to the air filter you'll see the pipe joins to the throttle body. Big clip holding it on. Undo this and pull to one side or remove. You'll now see the thottle body value and if it's dirty. Start the engine up and spray a bit into it. It will stall. You can keep the revs up by pulling on the throttle cable that way it keeps running. Then clean all round the housing engine doesnt have to be running for this. Hope this helps.
Might be an idea to get a Haynes Manual.

Cheers, bought the stuff and did it and it has not done it since, took the air filter off and cleaned the throttle body, then ran it and sprayed, it stalled quite a few time (it was very dirty) and found a few wasps in there as well so bought a new air filter and is now running smooth. Thanks for the help saved me alot of money and only took 30 mins (took it for a test drive!) Cheers Mono

Just looked at the pic I put up!!!!!!!!
Didn't think I did it that small.
Glad I could help. I clean mine out every month, so it runs smooth.
Might see you at PVShow if you're going.
