    Star Silver Paint

Is star silver a pain to match? Seen a nice star silver sports hatch but I want a spoiler on it, will it be a pain to match, is star silver and pain generally to match?

It can be, depends on the age or condition of the paint.

    There are Three Star Silvers.

    1 - 88L/L138
    2 - 82L/L147
    3 - L157/Z157

Look in your drivers door shut to find your paint code.

If you have a local paint supplier (ring a local bodyshop and ask them where they get there paint from), they will have three or five (depending on the set) of colour match swatches for each, they should be able to colour match your original paint.

I had a little repair done on mine, and I can still see where the paint was blended to the original panel, it makes me cry everytime I look at it. If you r car is a later car, the Paint should be Star Silver 3, and as Keif said, you will find the code inside the drivers door.

Cheers. It's a colour I'm seriously thinking of getting, I like how sharp it makes the car look. Doesn't sound too bad, I imagine there are worse colours!

Cheers people. I just think that it really suits the new sport hatch, gives it a nice beefy look, and I've always had dark colours so why not have a change!

How come Vauxhall keep changing them?

Think Keif has his letters mixed up. Star Silver is a Z code not an L as far as I know. All those codes are also Opel codes, Vauxhall use different codes for the same paint for some reason. 82L is the Vauxhall code which matches Z157 which is what my Astra is. Z147 is Star Silver2 and Z157 is Star Silver3 the latest one to date.

These two numbers are for different paint colours

The letters on my Vauxhall can of Star Silver II are 82L (the Vauxhall number) and L147 which as you say is the Opel Number.

You can walk into any Vauxhall dealer and ask for L147 and you'll get Star Silver II.

    Z157 is Star Silver III

The reason i know this.....my GF Corsa is Star Silver III and i've painted mirror covers and door handles for it and had to order the colour matched paint, and i looked on my EPC.

Weird that Keif, I took my Astra down to a major supplier of automotive paint. Everyone in the Gtr Manchester area uses these people. Fella who owned the firm came out to colour code my car. I'd told him it was Z157 and it was him that told me it was an Opel code, however he came out and T-Cut a section of my paint and used paint cards to match the paint. He told me that even in the same paint code there are 3 seperate shades, you have to match the 3 cards to the cut paint and find the closest match. Anyway when he finally produced the 1/2 litre and 3 spray cans of paint they were clearly marked as 82L and he told me that this was the same code but in Vauxhall lettering. The paint matched perfectly BTW. He was very quick to spot my spoiler wasn't a perfect match even though it was done professionally, I hadn't spotted it before he mentioned it but I can still see it's very slightly off.
