    X20XEV Induction Kit Help :)

What sort of noise do these viper kits make? are thay loud or just like a normal airbox?

i am right in saying all cone filters make the 2ltr engine sound like a tractor??

i listened to a mates 2ltr calibra ecotec and he had a k&n fitted and it didnt make any tractor noise at idle, but i fitted a differnet make of induction kit to my astra 2ltr ecotec and it sounded bad on idle.

    any help would be appreciated

I had a K&N cone filter fitted to my old MK4 SRi and it sounded like an echoing diesel. It came off after three weeks and sold because the sound was so doing my head in. I replaced it with a PiperX panel filter instead

TBH Not many people put induction kits on the X20XEV, the engine bay gets so dam hot that it actually sucks in more hot air than a standard setup and you will loose power!

Go for a Vectra C pipe (£12 from Vxl), derestricted air box (FREE!) and a KN Panel filter. (£40) Do a search, its been done to the death
or if you have the cash to flash and want the dogs danglies of induction kits, go for the BMC CDA system (Carbon Dynamic Airbox) again do a search, as these have also been done to the death. They cost a bit more than your average induction kit, but look the best, and give the best performanance

    Just my 2p's worth!

Slightly off topic but has anyone ever removed all that insulation under the bonnet?

I think thats one of the reasons the engine bay is as hot as it is when u lift the bonnet up.

Id agree with the derestic and panel filter comments.

I have a 2.0 SRi with the X20XEV engine. I have had a K&N 57i induction kit fitted in the past. Makes a decent noise on full throttle (regardless of revs.) Pretty deep n loud. But it didnt feel any faster and yeah, it does sound a bit "tractorish" on tick over.

I have since taken it back off, fitted a K&N cotton&gauze panel filer, derestricted the airbox and fitted the Vectra C air pipe. The car was noticeably quicker having done those mods (i was shocked at the difference!), AND you still get a bit of induction noise on full throttle - which is surprising, but nice. So that's what I would reccomend. You will get all the parts (as outlined by Darrel) for less than the price of a 57i or other cone filter.

I have no personal experience of the BMC, but have seen it on a few cars and it does look good. A bit out of my price range, so Im happy with my current air intake setup.

had the viper on my old XEV. sounded like a clapped out old tractor on idle and not much better through the range. Best thing I did was sell it.
Heard good things about the BMC Cda though.

Cotton Gauze, like a K&N. Foam is cheaper, but I reckong cotton gauze is better.
