    Free Broadband

Turned the laptop on to night and noticed some one in the neighborhood has an unsecured 1M Broadband wireless connection.

After a bit of detective work, based on the network name and telephone directory worked out which house it was.

So went round to tell them they need to secure it and was met by the hippy son (definitely Neil from the young one's, if you are that old to remember).

His reaction was, " Wow man, thats cool, free internet for the neighbours".

So as you can see it works quite well. Just wondering if I should cancel my Broadband.

And of course if they do not secure it, how can I give them a wake up call. IT advice needed.

well if they're sharing directories you could do what me and some mates did at a lan party to an unsuspecting idiot, create a notepad file, keep copying and pasting data in it til its about 100meg, then upload onto idiot's pc. then keep copying that file over and over to fill their hard drive, and whilst doing that copy a program which flashes "i am gay" on their screen, go round theirs (whilst still copying) tell them to click on this cool new program and it flashes that on the screen, meanwhile their pc is copying data about and so when they try to exit it their pc runs rather slowly

    Follow jam On Twitter

    Talking

Of course you could do a bit of IP snooping get his address and send the ping command on an infinite loop to his IP address and watch his PC loose internet connection until you interupt the command.

Or hack the router and deny access to his IP address. With this idiot being so unsecure I'm sure you'll find the password to be password.

Or just tell his ISP that he's sharing broadband to his neighbours and charging them. Oh dear theres a contract breaker!!!!

Sorry just thinking out aloud. If you were to do that it'd be very naughty and I'm a good boy honest .
    Its a jam thing

until he resets his router, and you wont be able to do a dos attack very easily, pings are done every 1 second (cant remember if you can change it) and it'd take up your bandwidth too.

basically if u have broadband anyway leave him to it, if u wanna play then do so but nothin as to harm his system, it wouldnt be very nice if somebody did it to you

Don't want to be maiicious, they are good neighbours, just a bit naive, not realising they have effectively left the front door to the house open

Just want to demonstrate what could happen.

Not much good with computers, just wanted to leave a message say, as a practicle demonstration.

So how do I do that, idiots guide please.

I am not a lawer. However, it's not just your neighbours that are naive. Check out the computer misuse act before you even think about doing this.

I believe the lines you should be most keen on reading are:

I'd get legal advice that you have right of access first.
