    Buying second hand EGR Valves

    Hi all,

Ok, this whole EGR valve thing is really doin my bonce in now! I went down to a scrapyard this morning to ask a guy if he had any of the same car that I could nick an EGR valve off and how much he would want for it. He hesitated and started rubbing his chin and mentioned that they charge £180 for them new and the phone rang so he picked it up and started speaking so I just left coz I knew he was gonna try and screw me for one...

Can anybody who has bought one second hand tell me what they paid for them or how much I should expect to have to pay?

Or, in the worst case can anyone tell me of any quick fixes to stop the light coming on so I can flog the car to a dealer part ex coz I've had enough of it.

Mate of mine got one for £20 from a breaker, some others were trying to charge £40. Vxl quoted £80ish including a new gasket, you could get it even cheaper with a trade discount.

I paid £25 for one from a scrapyard and the gasket was about £1 from Vauxhall.

    Unbelievable!

I fixed my speedo. Got a new cable and fitted it and the light has never come back on. I've taken it to my leccys and had it plugged it in again and there's no faults recorded.

No need for a new EGR then....
