How to request - interior colours

    Hi lads/lasses,

I'm looking into spraying my centre console silver, and possibly some more.

I've got an old ashtray/cig lighter compartment from a cav as i needed a new cig lighter, so I can do my test paints on that. By I have heard about sanding and priming?

Can someone produce a nice documented ( like you already have ) how to guide on doing a spray on part of the car, as no doubt it will all be the same.

Unless anyone knows of any knocking about that is already done?

Also, paints, any specific paint to buy? Or can you just use standard spray paint? as I have some nice colours for my remote control astra

    Cheers

    Gav

sorry dunno about the painting aspect but i picked up an official silver centre console kit off ebay for about £35. would save you the hassle of sanding, priming, painting etc.

only problem is an ash-tray in the same silver is an additional £35

Well another problem on the horizon!

Basically im looking at installing a 7" tft into the center console, I'm going to purchase a spare center console from a scrap yard providing they have any in. Then im going to try and fit the unit in. Once it's fitted hopefully I will be able to spray the whole thing.

Just been to halfords and they provide the spray premixed ( pre-primed ) i think, so I am going to buy some of that as a test.

Your better off with separate plastic primer, and the colour of your choice. Then some clear lacquer. Start off by wet and drying the part to be sprayed, this can be a bit boring, and hard work, but ensure its really really smooth. Start with a couple of light coats of plastic primer, and build it up gradually, after a few coats, use a fine grade of wet and dry liek 1200 grit, to sand the primer smooth, make sure its all smooth and even, then do the same with the colour, building up slowly with light coats. I think its then advised to leave overnight, before the same again witht he lacquer, a few thin even coats. When its completely dry, ploish up with t-cut of similiar.

Just done my interior. Do it just like Pendo said leaving time to dry between coats. Light coats of lacquer, to much and the paint underneath will run. Don't t-cut lacquer for a couple of weeks. It stays soft underneath.
Any probs give me a shout.
