    Question Z20LET Turbo Boost Specs?

    Hi folks,

I've come all the way over here to ask a question that my learned friends in Aus dont seem to be able to agree on. I have searched your forum to no avail, so I thought I'd be rude and ask a question on my first visit.

I have an Astra G SRi Turbo, It's the Z20LET 200hp version, I have a 2 1/2" cat-back system only and I am sourcing an EBC (GReddy profec spec II) at the moment. I am also getting an electronically adjustable Fuel cut defender to limit the spiking and to avoid limp mode.

Seeing as though there are only 300 Astra Turbo's in Australia, my resources are limited, even tuning shops have no idea.

My question is; how much boost can I safely run on the standard engine, and what spike limit should I set?

Also, does anyone know what the factory boost settings are for these engines?

Your advice and experiences would be greatley appriciated.

    Thankyou in advance,

    Glenn

    Welcome to the forums !!

In standard trim, the boost should run about 9psi, with it being limited in gear 1 and 2 to around 7pis, to aid traction is my understanding. IT should then hold 9psi in the top 3 gears, with some overboost to around 12psi. Once remapped it can hold 14-16psi with overboost of 18psi. The remaps can remove the limit on the first 2 gears aswell, so that is changed. The turbo does also start to run out of puff at about 5000rpm at these levels, and will drop off slightly.

Hope the above helps alittlle !

Yes 18 is the max, but this does drop with revs. I have a CS3 setup which overboosts at 18psi and holds 13-14psi. When I had the mapping done I was told that the setting for overboost is effectively - "let the turbo loose" - i.e. let it do as much as it can. I took this as meaning 18psi is all it can do. If you want more, you will need a hybrid turbo.

    Thankyou for your comments

Do you consider these levels safe for both the Turbo and the Engine?

thought boost its only limited in 1st and reverse??

Be interesting to see how you get on runing a fule cut defender... will the ecu allow it??

Be even more interesting to see how well it fuels running without a remap!
