    Tomtom, Navman or Road Angel

We all know how good road angel 2 is but what about Tomtom and Navman, apparently, aswell as road navigation, these other 2 fantastic devices also detect speed cameras and recognise speed hotspots. If Road Angel provided Road Navigation then it would be perfect, but it doesnt - and im unsure of which one to buy, if any!!!! maybe you guys can help me out! does anyone have one and hoe=w good are they really!

    Cheers

Navman, Tom Tom, ALK Co Pilot and Microsoft Autoroute can all be updated using their 'Points Of Interest' Database to add "GATSO", "SPECS" etc as points of interest with audible alert. The database for doing this is available over the internet for free, so not sure how well it squares up against Road Angel etc.

They have no laser detection either, but to be honest, as far as I can tell, the Road Angel laser range is not always good enough to offer protection from Instant On laser anyway.

    Ive a tomtom.
The only fault Ive had is that it sometimes takes a while to find satellites when you first switch it on. other than that its spot on for the cash.

Still never found where you can upload speed camera positions though?...

yes, that would mean you can take the pda out of your car whenever you like and dont have to worry that someone will smash your car for it.

make sure you get a fast enough pda handle the navigation while your on the move because i heard that some are quite slow in delivering on demand.

I have a tomtom go. I just wanted something that switched on instantly, out of the box, dedicated unit. And its a cracking bit of kit, if not a little expensive.

The other day i was following my mate who has a road angel. We came accross some recently errected speed cameras, about 4 iirc. The tomtom picked them all up (had updated it the night before ), the road angel picked up none!!!

the tomtom is worth it for the sat nav alone, never mind the speed camera sites as well!!
    mmmmmmmm, nice try!

I wanted a PDA based setup, but they don't power up in seconds like a dedicated unit and I had to think why I really needed a PDA for anything else. My phone is my address book and my Ngage is my games machine (some daft sod tried to tell me the Ngage was a phone the other day!), so I went for the Navman, you can pick them up in Currys for £300 at the moment, with update CDs, mains adaptor and cradle etc.
