Why will the weak link be the headunit? its next to top of the range, has 4v pre-outs etc

running standard Vaux door speakers at the moment, will upgrade to Alpine Type-R components at a later date, the factory ones arent too bad.

Turbo Scott: i'm running 2x 12" sony subs through a sony headunit currently chucking out 700watts rms through a 2000watt 4 channel amp and standard Astra door speakers:

Unfortunately sony has a bad name especially Xplode's or xplop as everyone likes to call them, IMO one of technology's top makes:

Put mine up against my mates vectra before I bought the other sub and he's running a 12" JBL through a 1000 watt amp and an Alpine head unit... couldn't tell the difference..
I think at the end of the day its personal preference.

Get yourself a high end Alpine HU and the interface box so you can control that amp from the HU.

Mr-Diesel - trust he, the Sony headunit although may sound OK to you, are quiet honestly piss poor in the grand scale of things. (Been there done that etc).

i agree with skuzzle, the head unit is definately inferior to your other system components. As for 4v preouts, my pioneer has 6v and its far from top of the range! I agree with mr diesel with regards to sony being a top make in technology and entertainment, their phones are great and home entertainment is fantastic-my place is full of sony gear! however they seem to have scrimped, scraped and generally been slack in their research and development when it comes to car audio. IMO they never really did their homework and just jumped on the bandwagon, relying on their reputation in home entertainment to sell their car stuff
Any info on V6 MK4 conversions greatly appreciated!

p.s. the typre r stuff is bloody good for the money but the type s is better IMHO.

Type s doesn't play as loud but the quality is better than the r's.

Seems the type R was intended for that growing market of loud is better.

Not a bad thing but it depends really what sound you are after.

Good choice though anyways (i'm running r type components up front at the moment)
