    High mileage z20let..

Have seen an Astra Gsi Turbo going cheap, only problem is it's done well over 100k miles.

Do you think I should stay clear or can the engine be reconditioned and be as good as new. Other than the high mileage (all motorway more aless) the car is in tip top condition.

Well id stap it up then, these engines are sure tooo last a long time, may need to replace turbo if it hasnt already.

If your getting for around £6-7k then a good buy

What sort of things would you replace?

I was thinking turbo (new hybrid), cam belt, cams, exhaust, gaskets, springs, etc.. anything else major needs replacing?

£6,500 I could probably get it for. But 117,000 miles is pretty scary!

It may well be loads of motorway miles.....in which case if it's had regular servicing...should be fine

117k is not alot for a well looked after engine.
on top of your list, it maybe worth changing shocks too

i had an issue with this when looking at an astra coupe. I spoke to my auntie's boyfriend who's a mechanic and he said these days petrols last for ever if they're looked after right. Motorway miles wont put any stress on the engine so as long as it has a fsh then you shouldnt worry too much. His mondeo has 175k on the clock and its still goin strong.

My mate has a PH3.5 Cav, with around 300 bhp and it has 130K or thereabouts on the same internals. Not an issue on these cars, as long as they have been serviced regularly
