Goin to look at a SRi?

well after looking for a while now i think ive found a astra i like the look of for sale,
its a 3 door, V Reg (1999) 2.0 SRi with 54,000miles 12mth Mot with the irmy kit in red,
only problem is the price is near enough £3500 which seems pretty low but speaking to the seller he says theres no probs with it at all, so im hopefully gunna be goin to see it asap and just wondering if theres anything i need to look out for on this,
i know it should have had a cambelt etc done at 40k which ill check and tbh at that price i would take it in for a full vox service anyway just to make sure,

Are there any other probs known with these cars?

Apart from the usual - IIRC the 2.0 is prone to cracked exhaust manifolds.

Do a search for 'cracked manifold' - theres' plenty on it already

only other thing to look out for is when driving etween 60-80mph, a shuddering through the steering wheel, mainly down to tracking, but not always

tbh then the manifold isn't that expensive to fix, esp at that price. Check the gearbox, clutch, leaks, usual stuff really

if you think its too cheap get an RAC check done, I had one done on a coupe i was looking at and it found serious faults that i just would never pick up. well worth the £100 imo. £200 if you want the full works with hpi etc. Dont risk anything from private sales tho

is there no way of stoping this then,

o and also just found out the car is advertised as accident damaged but professionally repaired so spke to the owner and apparently he brought it from an auction with front bumper/radiator damage, was all repaired by a professional bodyshop with a new bumper but i forgot to ask if it was an insurance write off, no chasis damage so cant have been too serious but i guess this is why its so cheap, i remeber tht there is like cat D which is like body damage would this be recorded on the log book?
it doesnt bother me too much tho tbh, if its been repaired its no big deal really,

IIRC the cracking is due to a fault in the design/manufacture - easy way is to replace. Not a difficult job to do, but it's a great bargaining point,
