i dont think many places would insure a astra turbo as a first car for most ppl,
from wot ive been looking at cos im looking for an astra the 1.8 seems good as insurance is not much more than the 1.6 and if you get a 2001 onwards has the 125hp which is pretty good,

2 litre turbo would be best but also cost you ten times the value of the car to insure

1.6 16v is a good engine and quite nippy only group 6 insurance as well!!

Why only a 1.6 Hatch but a 2.0 Turbo Coupe?

Why not a 2.0 Turbo Hatch?

    or a 1.6 hatch vs 1.6 coupe?

    ... *puzzled look*

Turbo_Scott was about to ask exactly the same thing.

Obviously the Turbo is the better car much faster etc etc, however as everyone says insurance, also running costs and the fact you have just learnt how to drive, something a little slower would be a good idea.

My first ever car was a Mk4 3dr 1.8 Sport, wasnt exactly cheap to insure but was cheaper or the same price to insure as anything slightly sporty French and also cheaper than some Corsa's/Fiesta's which didnt make sense.

the 1.6 coupe was only brought out in 2003 so maybe he cant afford that age of car? the 1.8 coupe or the 1.6/1.8 hatch was a more realistic choice for him in my opinion

Both good cars- would have loved the turbo but insurance is a killer- i'm 18 as well and they almost laughed when i asked for a quote having written off my vtr couple of weeks before. Think about the 1.8 coupe- its only ins group 8, doesn't exactly fly but its a nice car to drive and it stops- something the saxo just didn't do lol.

wtf my insurance this year was £1042 on my 1.4 astra
and my first year of driving was 1400 for a 1.2 clio

so please explain how ppl can insure theese faster cars for under £2000

in mummy and daddys name usually.

imo a turbo at the age of 18 is stupidity regardless if you can afford it. I only say this as i know i would have killed myseld in a car that fast when i had 0 driving experience
