    keyfob question

I lost my spare keyfob/key for my Mk4 astra and want to get a replacement one on the cheap.

It looks like I could get a brand new or used one (fob part only) off ebay - for about £10-15, but I was wondering about coding it to the central locking.

Would I have to get it coded at a vaux garage or can you synchronise the new fob by turning the ignition key to position 2 and pressing the button?

Also where could I get the key part that clicks onto the fob? would I have to get this from vaux and pay them to cut the key or will anywhere else sell them.

If I would have to go through vauxall does anyone know how much it would cost, cos I'm pretty broke right now (boohoo)

Oh and I haven't got an alarm, so don't need to have that bit coded or anything

    thanks very much

If you've got the manual for the car, it tells you how to code the keyfob to the car so it unlocks the doors. However, the chip for the immobiliser is a different story, as far as I know it's a reprogram by the dealer job.

i know you can do that for an original keyfob that comes with the car but becomes some what corrupted... but i thought you could not do that with a brand new one

yeah that's what I'm not sure about, I know how to reset the original key, but by the sounds of it I'll have to have a new or second hand one reprogrammed for my car.

    hope it's not expensive

You sure Tech2 can program transponders? as dealers have Tech1s but they still need to send the chips off to be re-programmed. If you require a new transponder chip you will require the 4 digit transponder code (look for a small business card sized card in your service history) and someone with the right equipment to program you a chip. I have a bloke that does it but he is located in Nottingham:
