    Windows XP Hidden Partition

    Hello

Does anyone know how the hell you remove the hidden partition that Windows XP creates when installing from scratch.

I`ve re formatted my old hard drive but there still seems to be another hidden partition of about 700mb.

Any help would be much appreciated.

dont think XP does. You need to delete all your partitions first then create a new one. Try fdisk.

Is this hidden partition where your 'recovery disc' lives?? If it is, leave it alone

i just re installed xp last night after a format and had to specify me partition. Didnt automatically do one.

Are you selecting a new install or repair ? Maybe its backing up a load of system info.

It`s not a partition for the recovery as I built the pc myself, it`s just that I fdisk`d the drive last night and I seem to have lost about 700mb somewhere.

I was under the impression that XP put some type of hidden partition in?? Guess not.

Ah - that's normal, my 40gb discs show up ad 38.2gb in Windows. Something to do with 1kb equalling 1024bytes or something techy and boring like that.

The formatting of the drive will loose some size compared to the disc size. It is down to the operating system installing the FAT (File allocation tables). Without this the disc is unusable by a conventional OS (basically, this bit is like an index for computer to remember where it left stuff on the drive)
