The HPC/VXR @ AutoSport show (pics)

Vauxhall had the VXR stand there with the star car this:

I have got to say that even if it does turn out to be just this car it will be stunning. I was quite impressed and Rob was very impressed! The people on the stand were selling it AS the VXR and as far as they are aware it is how it will look other than a larger rear spoiler (which I dont think it needs personally!).

We all know the rummors and if this is or isnt the VXR, the main thing is I reckon vauxhall are onto a winner, it works really well up close and I think ti will sell really well. One thing though if it is to have 19's as an option its going to struggle with them arches, it looked very very tight to me on the rear (yet again) and there is a hell of a lip under the arch. 20's are going to be hard work to get on again like the Mk4, however in my opion the 19's dont look over big on the car.

The girl on the stand told us the car is now due for September...... I think we may be waiting untill 2006.....

Would I own one? ................ yes definatly if I didnt want a true sports car first (IE VX220 turbo, TVR, lotus elise etc etc). Saying that I would never buy new so I may well be buying these from the second hand market.

Does look good. I think I would wait 6-12 months after release before buying one. Get the teething problems out of the way. Hope they do an Arden one though.

Saw the HPC/VXR yesterday and I fully agree with Mat (and Rob) - it looks so much better in the fleahbetter in the flesh than in any magazine.

The staff on the stand told me pretty mush the same - but the one they couldn't answer was........

    ........."where's the engine???"

    here's another pic

Mat - did you try those VXR sweets?????

Geoff no I didnt try the sweets (wish I had even seen them ) Your right also about the pics they really dont give of the presence it gives when you are in front of it. Its a very big car or at least it seems it??

I told the girl there wasnt an engine in it and she said its there but the bay is sealed shut She was nice enough though and was obviously told what to say.

I was on my hands and knees looking under the car - defo no engine in it (much to the concern of the VX staff).

And if you noticed the the grills were solid plastic, so you couldn't see through them.

The VXR sweets were the sourest things I've evere tasted - they gave you a 'face like a smacked arse' as the say in Nott'm. I grabed a bag full - great fun to give to kids, lol

Yeah I noticed the grill and the wheel arch lines seemed very strange as well, sort of not very well fitted and very over size so you couldnt see into the bay at all. ITs certainly a concept. They need to get a move on for September really as the autosport show would have been ideal to launch the final version and time enough to generate hype and publicity in time for a September release?

I spose with the interest the VXR is gathering, along with new editions of the golf and focus to compare it with, Vauxhall have got to get this right otherwise it'll be one almighty cockup and the motoring press will eat them for breakfast.

Better they take their time and gain perfection than do a rush release.

Did it look like it had ever been on the road?
Perhaps just mock up for shows?
Does seem weird though. Hope its not like RS Focus were they keep putting it back. Think if they do the new Focus with the Volvo 2.5T engine may steal abit of its limelight. Think this car should have been ready for the beginning of BTCC season and sold on the strength of the VXR Racing's success in the past 4 years. VXL need to use this success as a major marketing tool just like Subaru and Ford did with Escort Cosworth when there cars were winning in motorsport.

You are right Geoff, it would be a shame to have another situation like the mk4 SRi Turbo. Great car but was rushed and stole all the thunder from the GSi when it was finally released which in turn was a much better car.

Andy they are the front brakes mate!
