Someone mentioned to me that manufacturers stated BHP is at the fly wheel because they test the engine power output when the engine is not in the car. Does this mean that the 200PS (197BHP) the Astra Coupe Turbo does not produce this at the wheels? I thought 197 was at the wheels and assumed that the figure at the fly wheel was higher. So what is the correct answer:
1. 197 is at the fly wheel and will be less at the wheels.
2. 197 is at the fly wheel and will be the same at the wheels.
3. 197 is at the wheels and the fly wheel will be higher.
Also, when people quote bhp figures, rolling road figures and other websites. What is normally quoted? Wheels or fly wheel? I am guessing most people will use the higher figure which is probably always going to be the fly wheel.
