Question Buying Mk IV 2.0 SRi - what to look for?

    Hi,

I've finally decided that this will be the main car I'll be looking to buy (probably a yr 2000 model). Can't afford to stretch to a 2.2 :-(

Any advice on things to look for when I go to see one?

    Thanks,

    Graeme

nice car, good choice. This was posted earlier today but just search the forum
I have a 2.0 SRi and love it, but watch out for cracked manifolds and sheard off manifold studs, a commmon problem with the X20XEV's

Not sure what to look for mate as I have owned a few now and they all seem to do the job. If you like it buy it . Good luck and you should find plenty to choose from.

Make sure the ecu software has been updated. I had a 2000 model and had to have the software updated when i noticed the car was losing power. VX updated it for £25. This was 2 days before the AMD RR too

the only problem i've ever seen on the X20XEV engine is on one of my mates cars where once its got up to operating temp is runs a bit lumpy at idle sometimes and sometimes it will just stop all together just stops running but starts again fine.

His also runs really hot it heats up very quickly i mean quicker than other X20XEV's so keep an eye out for that too

Other than that just make sure there's a service history the Astra G is a pretty sound car to own not really any big common faults with them.

    1. Check its had a new cambelt
    2. Exhaust manifold sometimes cracks near the engine
    3. Worn vale tappets cause a rapid tapping noise, linked to engine speed, when the engine is cold

oh yeah, and good choice. get some pics up!
