    Head units

This has probably been asked before.........

Is it possible to replace the standard Phillips head unit in my 2001 Astra with an aftermarket unit (Sony, Alpine etc), without losing the dashboard display and steering wheel controls. At the mo, I've got the tape player which is shite and need to change it for something, well...........better.

BTW Any recommendations for a decent CD head unit for around 150 quid would be appreciated

    Thanks

yes its possible, well certainly for sony's. I think the sony connectors are ~£40-£50 from Halfords (possibly elsewhere). Cant recommend a good head unit im afraid, I think my unit isnt made any more

THIS headunit seems to get rave reviews and looks very nice indeed. Will be ordering mine shortly so will let you know how it goes. Not bothered about loosing the MFD display but loosing the steering wheel controls would be annoying.

Stumbled across these and they seem right up my street, no adaptor cables, no wiring looms, easy fitment..........anyone know if they are any good.

I have a 2003 Coupe Turbo and I added a Sony M8800 and with a £40 connector I still have my steering wheel controls and the display now tells me the date all the time

Ive got the Pioneer DEH 77MP and its a fantastic unit. SQ is amazing for a relatively cheap HU. You get real meaty pre-outs aswell! You really want to steer clear of Sony mate Try Alpine or Pioneer
Any info on V6 MK4 conversions greatly appreciated!

Well you wont really need the screen to display the radio stations and track names etc because the HU screen will do that for you! You need these leads to get the 77MP to work with ure steering controls:
