Very stupid question, but please help

In a quest to give my car a bit of punch with the bass lines i was looking to fit my sub today. However as with most people im having a bit of trouble running the power cable through. Im not really that keen on drilling a hole in my car so would rather use the gromit. However i am slightly unsure of which one is the grommit. When i remove the cubby hole thing is it the grey bit with a screw kinda thing in the middle, or the black bit slightly above it?
And secondly is this grommit readily accessable from the engine bay, because there seems to be a lot of other stuff knockin around so a rough idea of where to look from the engine side would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks and merry christmas
    Matt

in my mk3 i found the main loom and made a hole in the large gromet and pushed the power cable thru.

it came out on passenger side footwell and is easy.

on the mk4 u could try something similar

If you tell the exact age and engine size of your car we will be able to help you easier. The grommet behind the cubby hole is only there if your car has no accelator cable and is fly by wire. When you know where the grommet is it can be found in the engine bay

mintsause005 if only it were that simple on the MK4's mate. The main grommet where the loom runs in is a plastic multiconnector, much like a large door grommet connector

It is a drive-by-wire model. But i really can't see where the rubber bit comes out in the engine bay, its really confusing me (easily done!) How hard should it be to push through?

If you push it through from the outside in you are likely to loose it behind the foam insulation on the car
