well i no longer have a golf but i did earlier this year.

    1992 2.8 VR6

didnt do much in the way of mods just tidying up, some mk4 badges and highline wheels.

Performance was great - would do 110 in 3rd and i eventually bottled it around 120 as the brakes were not the best.

I sold it as it needed a lot of work done to it (just wear and tear - nothing serious) the engine was still perfect and sounded amazing.

God i miss that car - the smartcar isnt quite the same!

    I currently own 2 golfs...

my golf mk2 1.6 driver (only pic I have so far of it):

    Mods are:

    Full Gti kit (small bumpers)
    eyebrow
    tinted indicators all round
    Gti rear lights
    16 x 6.5J fronts 16 x 7J rears, Hand Polished, Porsche design 90 wheels
    Adjustable suspension (dropped 70mm)
    debadged.

Mods to do (when I can be bothered to go to the scrappy :

    Chrome handles
    Chrome inserts in bumpers
    exhaust back box
CL model front grill with chrome insert

    My golf MK4 1.4 16v SE:

    used to look like this..

    now looks like this:

    Mods:

Uprated springs and Shocks dropped 40mm
    18'' Audi RS4 alloys
debadged grill with insert flushed into bonnet
    In Pro clear rear lights
Handles and bump strips colour coded all round
Front and rear valances colour coded
    Debadged rear except VW logo
    Euro Car parts spoiler
    Focal speakers
    Gamma head unit
    AmD sticker

    Mods waiting to go on:

Stealth boot install with a 12'' sub
    Near rear badge
    Fabia rear wiper

    Mods to do:

Change front lights to new hella mk5 style
    Fit adjastables

I love both the golfs and both are fun to drive in different ways. The MK2 is like a go kart and great fun to drive and the Mk4 is a nice refined car which is very comfatable and safe to drive. I can see me being a VAG owner for the rest of my life with at least one of my cars.

I have a Golf PD130 with an AmD remap which has 185bhp and 299lbft torque, its a diesel and its fantastic! It also has 17" Audi TT wheels, a Nokia Car Kit and Smart Nav Satellite Navigation and Speed Camera thingie

Very good car indeed, as an everyday car its fantastic, the power is there when you want it, its well made, comfortable, looks nice and the dials light up blue!

    But

Get a Skoda like Ross's, take it to AmD and have it remapped, then you will have a 200bhp car with good looks, fantastic build quality and nearly new for a price which will make you smile!

I have a Golf Rallye. Basically its a Rally car built by VW for road use. They had to build and sell 5000 for hologelation (sp) purposes. All, I believe, were hand built in Belgum and are left hand drive with a quicker steering rack to usual and are instantly recognisable by the wide arch body kit that came as standard.

The Rallye usually comes with a rather gutless 150bhp G60 engine. It just doesn't have the power to pull teh 4WD system it has. Easy mod's though allow that to be boosted to a respectable 200bhp fairly easily.

I've just gone and thown that old 8v supercharged engine out in preferance for a mk4 Golf 24v V6 engine, that fits quite well. The pics below show it with the previous 12v VR6 that was in it.

    http://www.designadubs.com/images/nick/19.jpg
    http://www.designadubs.com/images/nick/20.jpg

    Spec:

    Golf mk2 Rallye
    24v V6 engine
    Mk4 Golf Haldex 4wd system
Uprated headlight loom (needed, believe me!!!)
    FK Fully adjustable Coilovers
330mm AP Racing 4 Pot front brakes
Corrado Dash and full leather interior
BBS Split rims 8.5x17 front, 9.5x17 rear, covered in Goodyear Eagle F1's
Lost of euro style body smoothing and mods.

Can't really comment on the performance of it that much as its still very much an on going project. But when I test drove it as a 12v I was still struggling for grip in the wet with all 4 wheel. It should have at least 204bhp to start of with which is a good starting piont.

Mk1 or 2 golfs are the best drivers cars imho, but you do have to be prepared not to have the creture comforts new cars have for obvious reasons. But, that can be a good thing as they're not far off a ton in weight and 170+ bhp from a modd'd 16v can give serious fun on B roads and on the track if set up correctly. Have seen a few porches 911 turbos flashed out the way round a dry Donnington

The only Mk3 to get is the VR6 imho.....they're just getting a bit lardy and it needs the torque to pull it along at a good pace. Suspension is a bit wallowy, but brakes are pretty good, and the suspension can be uprated only with a small ammount of hassel.

MK4's have a fantastic range of Diesels. Get the 150pd model and it can be chipped to 300lb ft of torque which turns any hill into a slight crest. The 20Vt is also a nice engine that has more than the standard 150bhp VW cliams it has, yet doesn't feel that quick because of its weight. Power can be turned up fairly easily though. And then of course there is the R32......Which speaks for itself.

Blimey thats some mod, I take it your running the control unit aswell then, how did you get on linking that up to anything? As on the MK4 it uses the wheel speed sensors and ABS unit to determine where to send drive.

Or is it hooked up to run perm 50/50 split 4WD?

    Quite a beast.
