    The joys of motoring

After the problems with the Airflow meter last week, well they continue...... had a few problems with the dump valve not closing properly....with the new map and higher boost this was made worse......so with a few spare hours on Satruday my mate and I decided to strip and service the dump valve and also change the spark plugs......Colin took care of the dump valve (he services scientific equipment etc, so this was a doddle to him) and we changed the plugs....... car ran fine upto around 3,000rpm where upon it went into limp home mode and running on 3 cylinders....hmmm some head scratching....thought it might be the new iridium plugs not gapped correctly, so rather than mess about we decided to stick the old plugs back in atleast if that cured the problem we knew what it was without spending ages messing.....nope no joy.....looks as though the DIS unit is fault.....thankfully Ive managed to get a hold of another unit to try tonight to see if it cures it

Expensive. Mines idling at 1500rpm constantly which is obviously gay.

Makes me glad I've an areshole 1.2 - it's starts and it goes. Goes like pants all the time, but at least it's consistantly poor.

Hope you get it sorted Dave.

Coo - the last time she drove it she snapped the ariel off the roof

Well shes all sorted now, replaced the DIS unit with one I managed to get my hands on, and swapped the spark plugs back to the Iridium ones at the same time....started her up and she was still running on 3 cylinders *bugger*......popped back into work and got our tech 2, stuck it on, quick fiddle later and shes running sweet as a nut......went for a test drive up the road and its like driving a differentcar, again. With the DV working properly and the new plugs it seems to be a lot smoother power delivery, more constant again rather than a big bang of power, also holds boost better where as it was dropping off before due to the DV.

How would you know if the car is running on 3 cylinders? What are the symptoms?

When its running on 3 cylinders it runs like a bag of bolts, feels rough, wont rev out and wont accelerate well at all.
