Keeping Steering wheel Controls + ICE advice

    A few questions :-)

I want to change my H/U but still keep the steering wheel controls working. Is there anyway to do this without spending £40 on cables from caraudiodirect?

Also where is the best place to buy a rear acoustic shelf from, and would 6x9's work well with a sub + the standard 4 speakers in a Mk4 astra?

Only way to do this is to keep the headunit as standard. Otherwise you have to buy the adapter.

Acoustic shelf you can buy from any decent ICE place and ideally try and get all your gear at the same time as you will probably get a discount. 6x9 with a sub are a waste of time. Rather spend the money upgrading your std speakers as these will give you a better sound. Fronts a the most important so most of your budget for speakers should go hear. You can keep the std speakers in the rear as it is rear fill only.

    cheers,

so i would be best off leaving 6x9's and get some decent comps up front. Any recommendations for this, around £70.

I had the 13cm versions of these in my old 106, and was very impressed

    cheers,

have gone for pioneer comps and a sony (yes i know) H/U, as well as cables to keep steering wheel controls. Hopefully should come tommorow, does anyone have a guide to installing an amp (i.e pictures showing where to run the cables). I de-wired the amp from my corsa so have a fairly good idea of what to do, but could do with a few pointers.

Also what is the eaiest way to get behing the h/u to wire it in, on the corsa there is a huge gap by the shelf under the glove box but couldn't feel this on the astra.

take the glove box out and loads of room!!!!!! there are 6 torx screws that come out 3 top 3 bottom and the entire glovebox comes out you can then feed all the wires you need from the headunit slot.

this is also a great place to locate the control box for handsfree phone kits!!!

cheers mate, am going to need the torx screwdriver then. Do you know the number for it and are halfords likely to be able to supply this? Can the rubber gromit also be found when the glove box is removed, to feed the live wire for amp through from the engine bay?
