Exclamation car's still f4cked please help

car revs drops and stalls (very occasionally)
car fails to start first time when warm (occasionally)
car loses all power when turning right (always) <<< edited to show new problem
car revs on its own sometimes, upto 2,500rpm (occasionally)

    cleaned throttle body
    cleaned idle control valve

    nope

ran tech 2 no fault found, told it was the ICV
    replaced idle control valve

    nope

    replaced throttle position sensor

    nope

    unplugged EGR valve

    nope

    plugged egr valve back in

    nope

cambelt roller was ticking, too dodgy to risk, ran like timing was out
    replaced cambelt and tensioner kit

    nope

    replaced crank position sensor

...still runs like shlt, still stalls

i'm picking the car up again tonight, limping it home

i've trawled the forums, most peoples threads end with the problem solved by one of the above, can anyone please help :-(

I could only suggest going to a dealer.... but it sounds like they're no help.

I just got the car back and drove it home

    only 4 miles or so.

it didnt rev on its own or stall

but come onto any roundabout, typically in 2nd, turn onto it, power out of the corner, - and its dead no power what so ever, car just rolls, then after a few seconds, power returns as you leave the roundabout.

the mechanic said the steering had nothing to do with it, but i'm not sure now

i've got to drive it some more to define the problems

could possibly be a split fuel line inside the fuel tank.ive had this problem before and this has cured it.

it definitely seems to do this turning right, not left,

drove it few times last night, and once the engine warmed up, it did the revving on its own thing again

i reckon thereís just a number of problems at the same time - just need to tackle em all ?!

cheers Andy, Iíve got to take it in again so i will ask them, any ideas how much work there £?

Has the car always been this way or have you bought a lemon? You said earlier that:

...cambelt roller was ticking, too dodgy to risk, ran like timing was out. Replaced cambelt and tensioner kit"

Did you bother to have the timing checked out before going to the trouble of replacing the belt and tensioners? If so what did they find? If the timing was out then as it is an interference engine then there is massive potential to do damge so really the head should come off and be checked by someone that knows what they're doing. If that's OK then you should turn to the bottom end. I guess it depends on how much you love the car but i'd say either keep throwing money in to it or buy a new lump all together and replace the one that's in if it's FUBAR'd as it will be cheaper.

It could also be the makings of Head Gasket Failure. Seen this rough running on Rovers so many times so it shouldn't be ruled out!

bought the car march 2003 30,000miles

    full service history, still has.

got the cam belt done around 40,000 as per service schedule.

now at 55,000 when Vauxhall were looking at it for me (on the revving and stalling.)

they said replace the idle control valve

but they also were very worried at a ticking noise under the bonnet which was one of the rollers, they said get the cambelt and rollers changed asap.

having got that done, the car drives perfect and quiet in all straight lines, but chuck a right and thereís no power, definitely feeling like Andy above has a possibility for that.

as for the lemon - yeah I reckon it is, but what do I do? I donít want the car now, but guess cant sell it before xmas. not really a time for buying cars, how can I get rid of the car ? no one wants to throw money at a car, even selling at a very reduces rate must be better than a new engine ? and even with a new engine, if its an electrical fault or fuel line, that wouldnít solve it would it ?

p.s. I donít do the work my self all done by mechanics at main dealer garages, except the idle control valve etc, even I can manage those simple tasks.

p.p.s i dont love the car at all now

p.p.p.s. FUBAR ha ha ha ha ha, its that alright

    thanks for all replies/opinions

if you wanted the fuel pipe checking it isnt a small job and will cost a bit, you need to drop the exhaust, remove the fuel line in to the tank, drain the fuel, remove the fuel tank, remove the fuel pump/sender unit and there is a pipe inside the tank which is a bastid to get to, thats the pipe that splits. could be expencive!

Has this got an aftermarket Immobiliser on??? I only ask as I had a similar problem or revs droping and cutting out. Turned out to be 1 half of the immobiliser that was cutting off the fuel....
