    Is it really possible???

To tune a Z20let engine up to 250 bhp without weakening the engine, thus shortening its life by thousands of miles. i only ask because my boss is a semi-pro rally driver and he as a Mk 2 escort with a 240 bhp red top in it he argues black and blue that my engine is not as strong as the red top and so is not as tuneable.

I wouldn't know how the Z20LET compares to the red top but the 20XEV is essentially the same engine and the Z20LET is a further development of that, so how does that make a 150Bhp XE stronger than a Z20LET making 200Bhp? Anyways. At 250bhp there would be a shortening of its life because of increased stress levels, a XE at 240bhp would also not last as long as a standard XE if both where maintained well.

Backing up what Manch has said, it all depends on how the car is driven. But the bottom end of the X20XEV and 2.0 XE are pretty much identical.

I seem to remember reading that the Z20LET was designed to safely do 230bhp.

An XE normally aspirated engine would have to raise the rev limiter to achieve 250 bhp, more revs means more strain and stress on the engine. The Z20LET is designed from the ground up to work as a turbo charged engine, so the crank etc are designed to cope with high torque at lower RPM.
