Wondering if anyone has heard of a particular problem one of my mates is having with his Vectra. Its a 1.6 "P" Plate with an auto Gearbox, 38K;
As soon as he starts the car in the morning and drives about 20 yards, the (i) light appears on the dashboard to indicate there is a problem with the gearbox and the whole car slows down to some sort of safety mode. Upon switching off the ignition and restarting, the light disappears and the car drives fine for the rest of the day. It will then do exactly the same thing the next day, but only in the morning.
Its been to a Vauxhall garage, who checked it out on their computer, they said there was no error codes stored in the ECU so they don't know what it is. Also been to an independant garage, who also could not find the problem; although they mentioned there is nothing physically wrong with the gearbox so it must be electrical. There is oil in the gearbox, so I guess it must be some sort of sensor on its way out, but have no idea about which one.
If anybody has any ideas, would much appreciated.
