    Unhappy Need Some Help !!!

just picked up my 2001 astra and the headunit front off bit was missing ,the guy at the car supermarket found a spare one and gave me that

the problem is it dosent work.

i didnt think it would because it probably needs to be coded to my car

but the main problem is the power light on the radio/date console is always on.

what do you think is wrong

    also

im looking to fit a different stereo as soon as i can but the place where the car400 is right now seems a little bit big.

will a standard stereo fit in there

    thanks

a standard din size after market steoro will fit (unless the vaux changed things as time went by as my 1999 astra took an after market HU without any adaptor plate)

as for the steoro front yeah only the one suppiled will work for obvious securtiy reasons

    well... according to mr haynes:
    1. using an allen key, undo the grub screws from the four holes in each corner of the radio front face
    2. Insort the two DIN removal tools into the holes on each side of the radio until they are felt to engage with the retaining strips
    3. Carefully withdraw the radio/cassette player from the mounting box in the facia
    4. Undo the mounting screw then release the side clips and withdraw the box from the facia. Disconnect the wiring and aerial from the rear of the box.

I need to get me one of those Haynes manuals because this is how I removed mine:

    - Allan Key
    - Screw Driver
    - Hands & alot of pulling
    - 30 minutes later someone from vauxhall dropped off some DIN removal tools

    Haynes for cheapskates

Take 1 metal coathanger - break off with strong wire cutters/ pliers - the two corners where the shoulders are - bend them in to a 'U' shape - insert them in to the holes - out pops the unit
why do today what you can...... I'll finish this later

done it the coathanger way last night and after ages and ages of pushing and pulling it came out...thanks for the tip kitchpoo

just tried the headunit without actually putting it in fully and it works fine so i`ll deal with it tommorow.
