    SRi vs SXi (new member)

    Hey, my first post

Currently have a Focus which I am in the process of selling, have been looking around for a replacement and stumbled accross the MK4 Astra which I have never even considered before.

Seems to fit what I need perfectly, has more or less the same spec as the Focus, reasonable price, extremely reasonable insurance, and nearly 2 seconds quicker to 60 than the focus

I went to the dealer earlier and they had an SXi which was very nice indeed, was new than I wanted (X,Y, 51 plate) but still got a chance to look around it. Seemed nice enough, similar size to the focus, styling is good and I can see it looking better with a few subtle mods. Compared to the other cars I have been looking at, this seems to be the one

Looking on autotrader there seem to be more SXi's than SRi's, I have had a search and have noticed a few small differences such as a spoiler, but what other advantages does the SRi have? I have about £5500 to spend, preferably less so I will have some cash to throw at it, but have around £6500 in total which I hope will get me a decent one.

Going to call another local dealer and see what they have and may go down there tommorow, I just want to compare the driving experience with the focus before I can totally make up my mind. I have always been a Ford man (was considering getting another fiesta zetec-s but would rather an astra) so I have come over to the dark side as it were

Edit: Am after the 1.8 version if that makes a difference

There is likely to be more SXi's than SRi's because the dealers offered 0% finance on the SXi from new so they were a more popular model for the average buyer. Plus they are a popular choice of fleet car.

Welcome to the site. Fancy seeing you here.

SXi is just has the sports trim basically, there's no difference in the engine compared to normal 1.6 16v or 1.8 16v, where as the SRi has more perfomance enhansing mods i beleive

1.6 16v SXi is insurance group 5E and sri somethin like group 15

at least i think that's right lol

Yeah the Group 15 insurance didnt sound right, it only works out about £30 more than my focus despite being 2 groups higher

Trying to hunt an SRi down at a dealer for a test drive, might have more luck tommorow

    :|

last time i checked both were group 9. Awell.

According to tesco when i asked it was group 9. (about 4 weeks ago)

The "Sport" models are group 7 because they're 10bhp less than the newer ones (Pre 2000)

Although 2.0's have tall ratio boxes, but that doesnt matter as you're after a 1.8.

On another note, 12 months ago I paid just over £6500 for mine so you shouldn't have too much trouble getting one in your price range.

    p.s welcome
