How can I improve my Astra diesels performance ??

It is “1.7TD Envoy Diesel Estate”, September 1998 with a Diesel turbo 8v, single cam, X17DTL (the Vauxhall) engine. yes, I know now to avoid it, but what can I do to increase power??

I have fitted a induction kit & a large dose of red-X, resulting in a quicker response but it’s still lacking torque. Going up hills it slows to 60mph. I not that bothered about acceleration, I mainly want to keep speed I have it!!! Will a tunning box work, which one fits, do i have a mechanical fuel pump ??

Is that too much to ask for someone who round trip to work every day 160 miles ??? :?:

    Hi Nick,

If it's badged as "DTI" on the back you can use a tuning box. but IIRC all the DTI's are 16v (the 1.7 is DOHC too).

These boys can do some real tuning on your lump, but I imagine it'd be expensive:

Either that or look out for a 2.0 DTi or 1.7 (c)DTi and chip that. The 1.7 izuzu lump I had in my mk3 TDS was quite a nice one so that could be another route to look at.

I'm almost 100% sure that it's got a mecanical pump, and that's the bit that needs to be a fancy electronic one for the "chips" to work.

ive got the full spec at home i'll bring it in and copy it. i am sure there is a sensor on the cam positon (as well as everywhere esle) which inturn connected to the ECU which controls the injection /pump system.
Can it be driven mecanically controled by the ECU and still be concidered electronic??

Regals claim to have a plugin box for that engine code:

if you are sure that's the right one, maybe it is electronic enough
