    GM to cut 12,000 Jobs

Got told at work yesterday that there are going to be 12,000 redundancys across Europe. We (Ellesmere Port) are going to loss about 350jobs, Vauxhall's headquarters is losing 200 and IBC Vehicles(vans) 100jobs.The major losses are at the German factorys. Its not a good time for GM apparently, they want to save 500million a year by getting rid off people. Hope I am not one of them

Elsemere port would make sense for a cut-back as GM no longer use the 3.2 V6 in US cars.

They reckon that in Europe there will be atleast one factory closure. This has came about due to huge loses mainly from over-production, losses were something liek £45million for GM's Europe division last year. VW are also looking to axe around 30% of its work force.

The motortrade is on it's ar$e on a global scale.

Just about ALL marques are finding times difficult at the moment.
Lets hope they close a mainland europe factory and not put another nail in the UK motor industries coffin.

I work for a supply company to vauxhall, so i too am hoping things dont take a turn for the worse.

Heard this unfortunaltely a few weeks back when in Germany. I feel truely sorry for those involved as it is never pleasant. Kind of by accident that it was mentioned really as the meeting we where talking about Merc sales being down slightly for the first half of the year but profits were up 20% and that Chrysler was due to make a profit second half of the year, which was ahead of expectations. But as part of this we were talking about the other manufaturers when GM, Ford, BMW and the rest came up and what the proposed stratergies were going to be. Seems it is not a good time to be in the motor industry at the mo, but as with all things there is bound to be a upturn in the market(probably when the oil pricces drop significantly).

I didn't know that. Who makes the 3.2 now then? My recent GM Powertrain brochure says the 3.2 still comes from Elsemere Port, perhaps they have lots in crates still.
