Are 40mm profile tyres ok with....

    18" Rims?

Was always led to believe that 35mm was the best choice? 225/35/18?

It depends on your original tyre size, some of the earlier astras needed lower profiles than the some of the newer and bigger engined astras.

What size you running standard? I could convert it for ya, but there's also a tyre size thingy in one of the techy forums.

you can have 40 but it will be out of the standard radius iirc.

We usually say 215/35 or 225/35 but we use 215/35 for 19s aswell.

if 35% of 225 is about on he limit for keeping the rolling radius the same then I think 35% of 235 might start pushing it a bit, plus thats best suited to an 8J rim

No doubt 235 will go on, just may not be ideal

Ive always had 215-35-18 on all the alloys ive had which have been 18"

Falkens are alright, i had a set of Pirelli Pzeros on it and then went through a nangkang stage which I actually think are quite good

you'll be alright with Falkens mate!!

what wheels have you found? Have you bought the car yet?

Also as someone did mention earlier 225/40 18 doesnt mean you have a 40mm sidewall.

Its actually 40% of the cross section width which is 90mm.

Just a little useless techie info there
